For Discussion: 3.5l in a TF

Hi yall,

Came across this 3.5l engine in the ebay thread and was wondering if I could put a 3.5l engine in a TF.

Do they have the same mounting points? Would you need the ecu from the engine and the wiring loom? Would you need the driveshafts from the 3.5l as well.....

Not sure if anything else would be needed if I wanted to do a swap.....

running a 3.5 in my manual TF sure the 3.0 used to rev like the clapper but cant beat the torque and wider torque band of the 3.5 as well as the extra kw

i have pacemakers extractors so the exhaust wasnt a problem if you have stock headers you will need the ones from the 3.5 due to the taller engine, re-use your uper intake and throttle body, the drivers side drive shaft mid mount is slightly different by 2mm you will need a spacer or washers for one of the bolts. do a search its covered more by madmagna when we done mine

As above, you will need to do the following assuming you are running auto

You will need to use the following off your 3.0
Aircon bracket
Upper manifold
Engine harness (one on the actual engine that plugs into the injectors)

Ensure that the 3.5 has it's original alt upper bracket as these are different

All of the rest you can use of either engine

Being auto, if you can get an intermediate drive shaft (solid rh one that goes from trans to drive shaft) from a TH 3.5 or KE - H Verada, this will go into your trans no issues and will solve the issue with the intermediate shaft bracket being different

You can use the 3.0 ECU no worries

thanks for the replies. I would love to change to a 5 speed auto as opposed to the 4 speed i now have. and considering this engine has only 69k on the clock, comes with a 5 speed tranny, wiring loom, ecu and cv drives, I am pretty tempted. However I know getting someone to fit it here in wa is going to cost an arm and a leg. It is food for thought though.

Its a day job mate, Old engine out new engine in, with the manual conversion add another 2 days onto it, so 3 days. It's still not *that* expensive, got a mate who can lend a hand?

got a few but not sure if they are any help when it comes to changing an engine. oh well, it was thought.

On a different note, would a 5 speed auto trans fit into a TF engine??
